Classical ballet begins with a pre-syllabus class for the very young (ages 3 to 5), progressing to the Major grades and pointe work for those students who are technically capable. We follow the syllabus set out by The British Ballet Organisation www.bbo.org.uk

Tap is an excellent way to develop rhythm, coordination and musicality. Again the syllabus from the British Ballet Organisation is followed alongside free and group work and sometimes a song.

Jazz Dance begins with a structured ‘warm up’ to develop strength, technique and to stretch the body from the modern dance syllabus. This is followed by a dance in any theatre dance style. Students are encouraged to suggest their favourite music and are given the freedom to create and express individuality.

Musical Theatre works on developing your child’s confidence through supportive and understanding teaching. We learn songs, dances and script from a different musical each term exploring different styles of musical theatre, accents, vocal warm ups and drama exercises. The course culminates with a mini performance for parents and friends at the end of every term.

Examinations are encouraged for all students. These help demonstrate the progress being made and to document this achievement, however, examinations are not suited to every child and are not therefore compulsory. Our teaching staff continually assess the progress of each child and reports are issued to parents each July.

Performances: We put on a show for the benefit of the students so from start to finish our rehearsals are conducted in the same friendly, creative, encouraging environment that all our lessons are. The production takes place every other year and every student in the school is invited to be involved. It doesn’t cost anything to be included in the show other than the cost of your costumes.
